PHARMACEUTICAL MICROBIOLOGY LABORATORY

The Pharmaceutical Microbiology Laboratory of FMIPA UII is a laboratory specifically designed for practicum and research related to microorganisms such as bacteria. Practical activities and research that can be carried out at the Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Microbiology of FMIPA UII include antibacterial activity tests, test for the number of bacterial contaminants (ALT and AKK), and analysis of pathogenic bacteria. The laboratory room is divided into several sections, namely the white area, gray area and black area. Apart from practicum and research, the Microbiology Laboratory also receives tests such as the amount of microbial contamination (ALT) and antibacterial activity tests. Various tools available in the Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Microbiology, FMIPA UII include LAF, Elisa, PCR, Scan 500, Gravimetric Dilutor (Diluflow), Incubator, Oven, Autoclave and Micropipette of various sizes.

The history of drug discovery is motivated by the existence of diseases that arise due to microbes, one of which is bacterial infection. The history of the discovery of antibiotic drugs that can save humans from bacterial infection is the earliest history. The field of pharmacy is also close to the field of biology, especially microbiology. The Department of Pharmacy prepares students with adequate knowledge in the field of microbiology, in order to develop knowledge and research in the field of microbiology.

The pharmaceutical microbiology laboratory, which is owned by the Department of Pharmacy, equips students to have the ability and knowledge of sterilization techniques, microbial identification, bacterial culture, antibacterial testing and counting microbial contamination of food products, cosmetics, foods, medicinal raw materials, medicinal products and simplicia. Microbial contamination is a critical parameter in quality assurance of medicine, food and cosmetics.

The pharmaceutical microbiology laboratory has very adequate infrastructure in the field of research and practicum learning, including rooms that meet the Bio Safety criteria with BSC and BSL cabinets in accordance with national and international regulations and standards. These facilities and infrastructure are proof of commitment to the quality of education in the Department of Pharmacy.
